Ramadan: A Month Of Self-Reflection
Ramadan is a month of forgiveness and blessings from Allah (SWT). Obeying Allah (SWT) and fulfilling His commands becomes easy during this sacred month when it is time to contemplate the state of our hearts. Kindness, good manners, and the remembrance of Allah (SWT) should be the key focus this month. Self-reflection is a must in the month of Ramadan.
Some people think we only have to fast in Ramadan but that’s not true. Fasting is only the simple abstinence from food and drink… It is more about applying self-restraint from evil thoughts and actions, eventually bringing spiritual and physical goodness to the individual and society. During the holy month, it’s important to be mindful of negative thoughts, whether they’re about people, public transport, or even infuriatingly slow walkers. Ramadan is the perfect time to do consider how your actions affect others.
Every Ramadan, it’s important for us to reflect on the efforts we made to improve during the previous one. Have we carried them throughout the year, and what were the things that made these efforts a challenge? Ramadan for me is a time of intense spiritual growth. Not only are we required to abstain from food and drink, but we are also required to purify ourselves, our minds, and our hearts by avoiding ill speech, loss of temper, arguments and malicious behaviour.
It is the ultimate self-care for the soul. In Ramadan, we have an opportunity to make a better version of ourselves, we can use this time to reflect and express gratitude to Allah (SWT)through worship, acts of charity and kindness, forgiveness and to try and complete the full recitation of the Holy Qur’an. Whilst fasting this month, our bellies are void of food to make room for a wholesome spiritual consumption that we so desperately need and that we should preserve long after Ramadan ends. So always stay positive!
Ramadan Mubarak!
