Verity by Colleen Hoover
Dark. Enthralling. Twisted. Bone-Chilling. Unforgettable.
These are the words that came to my mind when I read Verity by Colleen Hoover. The book
follows the story of struggling writer Lowen Ashleigh, who is welcomed to the Crawford
residence to complete the remaining novels of the bestselling book series by Verity Crawford,
who is unresponsive and bed-ridden due to an accident that took place prior to the deaths of
both her twin daughters. With each passing day, Lowen finds herself attracted to Verity’s
husband Jeremy, suspects Verity of faking her condition and even obtains an autobiography
manuscript that contains sinister details Verity has written about herself and her life.
I was unable to put it down, and every turn of the page trapped me in a web of haunting
revelations. This book was the absolute opposite of what Hoover usually writes, but as always
she managed to not push but wreck the boundaries. She perfectly maintains the suspense and
creepiness throughout the book that many others fail to do. To put it simply, the book contains
flawed characters, unbearable tension, disturbing secrets, and it concludes on a twist so
harrowing that it tangles the lines between right and wrong and leaves the reader in eternal
shock and with infinite questions.
