My First Ramadan
There was a new moon in the sky and it shows the beginning of our religious month called Ramadan.
Ramadan is a holy month for all the Muslims around the world. For one month, all Muslims will fast from Sunrise to sunset. This means they will not eat or drink anything all day long.
This year I am older and I tried to fast for the first time. We fast because it helps to us concentrate on our faith. It also reminds us to be thankful for all we have!
In the morning, before the sun comes up, mama makes a big breakfast for all of us. We call it suhoor.
Mama and I pray five times a day and also read the Quran – our holy book.
At the end of the day, as the sun begins to set, we get ready for our Iftari. We eat a date just like Muslims did almost 1400 years ago when Prophet Muhammad (SAWW) first taught his followers to break their fast with a date. At every Iftari, I am so hungry everything tastes so good!
After four weeks pass, we look up at the sky to see if there is a new moon again. Yesss!! We all see a new thin moon! This means that Ramadan will end tomorrow and we will celebrate Eid ul Fitar.
