Drug addiction is not a stamp of authenticity for having failed morally or for the lack of willpower. Drug addiction is a complicated disease that deserves long-term, extensive treatment just like any other chronic condition. The people who have not had to struggle with substance abuse usually find it unsettling to comprehend why anyone would use it and get addicted. Why would they, without contemplating the wake, put themselves in harm’s way by taking something that’s a health hazard? That’s the thing about addiction. It wires the brain to believe that it cannot go on without substance until whatever it is that one’s addicted to stops feeling good and starts to hurt.

It isn’t hard to validate the damage that drugs cause to a person, a family or a community. The dangers of addiction are immense, ranging from one individual to a national level. Once you’re ready to face and fight your addiction, your main and only concern should be how drug abuse has affected your life and the lives of those around you.
