Carbon Emissions

Carbon Emissions

Carbon emissions are gases that are released into the air when we burn fossil fuels like coal, oil, and gas. These emissions are a big problem because they trap heat in the Earth’s atmosphere, leading to climate change and global warming.

Carbon emissions are measured in units called “carbon dioxide equivalents” (CO2e), which take into account the different warming effects of different gases, like methane and nitrous oxide.

The main sources of carbon emissions are transportation, electricity generation, and industry. When we drive our cars or use electricity, we often rely on fossil fuels, which release carbon emissions. Many factories and power plants also burn fossil fuels, releasing even more carbon emissions.

To combat this problem, many countries have set goals to reduce their carbon emissions, and are investing in renewable energy sources like wind and solar power. Individuals can also help by driving less, using public transportation, or using energy-efficient appliances at home.

Reducing carbon emissions is important because if we don’t take action, the Earth’s temperature could continue to rise, leading to more extreme weather events, rising sea levels, and other dangerous consequences.
